Our organisation
Objective
The Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) are being established as one of the pillars of the EU Common Fisheries Policy after the revision of 2002. The overall objective of the RACs is to work towards integrated and sustainable management of fisheries resources, based on the ecosystem approach and the precautionary principle.
The Pelagic RAC will prepare and provide advice on the management of pelagic fish stocks, i.e. blue whiting, herring, mackerel and horse mackerel on behalf of the fisheries sector and other stakeholders.
The Pelagic RAC was inaugurated on 16 August 2005 as one of the seven RACs that are being established for the North western and South Western Waters, the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Baltic, and High Seas/Long Distance Fleet. The Pelagic RAC covers all these seas excluding the stocks in the Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
